A Guided tour of the Lost Pubs of Peterborough and Pub History Society Social

Saturday 24th April 2010

A day out in two parts….

Part 1

The Pub History Society would like to invite you to a guided tour of some of Peterborough’s lost pubs. Taking in Bridge Street both Broad and Narrow, The Market Place, Long Causeway, Cumbergate and Westgate before finishing at the recently reopened Ostrich public house in North Street for refreshments.

Part 2

We will then embark upon our ‘social’. Using the local bus service (1) we will proceed to the Bluebell in Dogsthorpe, a pub dating back to the 1600’s to sample Elgood’s beers before heading to Park Rd. From here it is a short walk to Millfield and the Hand & Heart pub. An unspoilt 1930’s  inter-war rebuild which just happens to be holding a beer festival!
We will then continue on public transport to the Coalheaver’s Arms in Woodston, a pub dating back to the 1850’s which was damaged by bombing during the war. The Coalheaver’s will also be holding a beer festival!

Meet at 11.30 outside Bridge Office on the south side of the River Nene (opposite Charter’s floating pub). These are the Peterborough Council Offices and is unmistakable because of the huge carved mural on the wall
(Mitchell Engineering).

(1) Visitors will have to purchase a Day Rider on the first bus which will enable the use of buses all day
