Links to pub related sites
Below are a few links to websites around the country that we think are worth a visit. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for other links.
www.deadpubs.co.uk The historical Pubs sites were started by a friend Ian Hunter, who built an excellent resource for Essex. They comprise a simple entry for each Pub, Beer House and Tavern, with census and Trade directory information. Detail is added to by personal histories, and photographs where available. The Pub site now covers all of Essex, and much of London, Kent, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Berkshire, Sussex, Surrey and Dorset, and tends to stop about 1940. The Pubs are listed by church parish, rather than modern post code; and any additional information is always welcome.
www.gloucestershirecamra.org.uk Huge site devised by Geoff Sandles. Lots of history on pubs and breweries around the area.
Hull Pubs. Although not fully populated with the history of pubs of the city, Paul Gibson who has built the site promises it will soon. In the meantime have a look at his piece on The Pubs of the Stoneferry Area. Paul has written several histories of local pubs including ‘A Toast to the Town’ which gives the history of pubs in nearby Beverley.
Warwickshire. Pickard Trepess has a website covering many aspects of the history of the county including some useful information on pubs. Have a look at John Crossling's History of Warwickshire and also Pubs or Inns & Taverns of Warwickshire. He also has a database of Plagues, diseases and disasters throughout History for those who like that sort of thing!
Dover Public House Archive. Large site covering local pubs and breweries with excursions into licensing, landlords and many things besides.
Pubology. Whatever is it? Take a look and enjoy the musings of one of our newest members, Chas Saunders
